Developing an Educational Display Using Fossil Specimens from the Bryn Mawr College

Posted August 2nd, 2011 at 4:41 pm.

Much of the Bryn Mawr College paleontology collection is currently in storage out of public view. The collection is extensive and diverse and should have a prominent place in the geological displays of the College. The goal of this project is to develop an educational display from some of the best specimens in this collection, in order that it may communicate to people, both within the geology department and in the larger community, a greater appreciation and understanding of paleontology. The project involves selecting specimens from the collection, examining them carefully, preparing them for display and researching the paleontological, geological, and historical context of each specimen. These selected specimens will be incorporated into a general paleontology display which will be designed as a broad overview of the field.  Additional information in the form of text, images, and models will also be included. A paleontological display will be both interesting and informative for visitors and prospective students and will enhance the department’s current public educational materials.
